Crochet Class Project - Flower
I first saw this pattern 4 years ago and I had to buy the book. The book, First Crochet Projects for Beginners by Lesley Stanfield. The book has a number of great patterns from striped scarf, cushion with buttons, to roses. Great book for a beginner or someone wanting to do a quick project.
My crochet class this season will be working the rose pattern as an embellishment to a beanie hat we are making.
Here is the pattern:
MAKING THE ROSE Leaving a fairly long end, chain 71. Row 1 Skip 3 ch, 1 double crochet (dc) in each ch to end. 69 sts. Row 2 [Skip next 2 dc. 7 dc in next dc, skip next 2 dc, slip stitch (sl st) in next dc] 5 times. [skip next 3 dc, 7 treble (tr) in next dc. Skip next 3 dc, sl st in next dc] 4 times, skip next 3 dc, 7 tr in next dc, skip next 2 dc, sl st in top ch of 3 ch. 5 small petals and 5 large petals made. Fasten off, leaving an end of wool long enough to sew with.
FINISHING: Thread first end on to a tapestry needle and run it under and over remaining strands of base chain. Pull up to gather. Starting with smaller petals, coil the strip, tightly at first and then more loosely, the spaces between petals alternating as far as possible. Stitch base of petals using longer end of yarn.
STEM: Chain 16, skip 1 ch. Sl st in each ch to end. Fasten off, leaving an end long enough to sew the stem on with.
