Tree Update

I've shared with many about our new yarn bombing challenge. We will be covering a tree located in front of the senior recreation center. This will be a great project and I can't wait to see how it turns out.

Just to recap we will be creating small swatches or motifs to create a beautiful cover for this tree (see pictures). Many have responded to my newsletter saying they would love to help but wanted more details on how to make a motifs for the tree. I have a few ideas and if you can be more creative please do so. We want a variety of motifs for this project and they only need to be 3 to 4 inches in size. Does not have to be exact.

1) Granny square- this type of motif can be done in one color or change color for each row worked.  (See pictures.) I suggest doing only 3 rows since we want them small. Here is a link to a video: http://youtu.be/cKmNuqP-9vc

2) Circular motif- you can do two or three rounds and make a great motif.  Note: chain 4 and slip stitch to join. Chain 3 and work 11 dc in center of ring. Join with a slip stitch. Chain 3 and work 2 dc in each dc below giving you a total of 24 dc and slip stitch to join.

3) If you find a flower pattern you would like to make, those are welcome to.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQeq7Hci_qU

4) A simple swatch working 12 to 16 dc stitches in each row totally 6 rows.

Keep in mind this is a great way to use up your stash yarn. Don't worry about what color or that you may think your swatch is not good enough, because you would be wrong. This project is for those of any crochet or knitting level.

If you have a pattern you want to share for this project let us know by commenting below.  I am please to say I have receive several swatches already but we have a long way to go.  Feel free to make as many as you would like as every contribution helps.
