Big Twist Yarn Review

When I find a new yarn I have to share what I think about it. This time it's Big Twist yarn.  If you have been following me you know I'm already a fan of Big Twist but this time it's about their bulky yarn.

Here I was minding my own business while running into JoAnn's for a quick item.  An item I can't even recall.  Hmmm, wonder if I picked it up after being distracted by the new yarns they had.  Any way, I couldn't help but notice these nice bold colors popping out of the shelf.  No really, they were in fact popping out of the shelf.  The bin was over flowing.  I had to take a look and their it was, Big Twist bulky yarn in mustard, navy, pink and so many more .

My first trip in I just grabbed the mustard color since fall is approaching it seemed appropriate. Then the next day, I went back for more. Ok....I can't help myself.  I'll be honest, it was calling my name.

Here are my thoughts on the yarn.  Love it!!!  But lets get the name of the yarn correct.  It's Big Twist Natural Blend.  Not referred to as bulky or chunky but you can tell since it is labeled with the #6 (super bulky).  The wonderful thing is it comes in 31 colors.  31!!!  Wow!  I purchased the mustard, grey and the blush color.  Love each one of them.

The yarn is a blend of acrylic and wool.  In fact, 80% acrylic and 20% wool.  It's incredibly soft.  You get one ball with 105 yds which is enough to complete the knit cowl.  I wrote up a pattern and included it in this post.  You would want three balls for a nice scarf and two balls for a hat.

You can machine wash but lay flat to dry.  You could dry clean if you selected.  I personally hand wash and lay flat all my items as it has been proven over and over again to last longer.

Note the importance of purchasing yarn with the same lot number to guarantee color match.  And remember this yarn can be purchased online for more color selections.

Funny, I sound like I work for JoAnn's.  I do not nor am I affiliated with them though I would love to be.  Are you listening JoAnn's?

I'm always inspirited when I see a new yarns.  I can't explain it but a pattern always comes to mind when seeing a new color or new brand.  Once I saw this one I wanted to do up a quick project and something for fall and the answer was a cowl.  You can make it with one ball of the Big Twist Natural Blend.  Great deal, the pattern is free.

Here's what you need:

1 ball of Big Twist Natural Blend #6 yarn.  Get your favorite color or color(s) since you are going to want to make more than one.  I made three and looking to make a hats to match.  If that comes to light I will update this post to include the hat pattern.

Use circular needles in size 17 in 16" in length.  Make sure you have one mark to note the beginning of each round and a tapestry needle to weave in your ends.

Now that all is purchased or pulled from you knitting supplies, lets get knitting.

Cast on 44  but make sure you don't cast on to tight by using  a long tail cast on.

You will need to join the round once you have casted on and place your marker.

Now you are ready for row 1: *K1, P1*, repeat for ribbing stitch
Row 2 - 5: repeat Row 1 by knitting the knits and purling the purls (continuing with ribbing stitch)
Row 6: Moss stitch - P1, K1 and repeat around
Row 7: Moss stitch cont'd - K1, P1 and repeat around
Row 8-33: continue with Moss stitch by repeat Row 6 and Row 7
Row 34: K1,P1 around (beginning ribbing)
Row 35: K1,P1 around
Row 36 - 37: repeat Row 35
Bind off
Weave in ends.

See, quick and easy.  You can make this in a weekend.  Then go back and get a few more colors.  You have 31 to choose from. Make as many as you would like.

Comment below and let me know what you think of the pattern and the yarn.  If you do find that I made an error in writing up the pattern please comment below so I can make that correction.  I do my best not to make errors but, well I'm human.

Happy Knitting!!!
